Other combinations of Mathematics and another studied subject realized in the cooperation of the Faculty of Science and other faculties at the University of Olomouc are not excluded. You are advised to contact Administration Department of the Faculty of Science with request about particular combination of studied subjects with Mathematics.

Profile and Employment of Graduates

Bachelor Programme

Teaching of Mathematics

Bachelor study programme of Mathematics for two-discipline studies is included into the study programme of Mathematics. The teaching plan of this study programme includes a wide variety of subjects concerning the basis of Algebra, Geometry and Mathematical Analysis as well as subjects concerning teaching of Mathematics at schools.

Graduates obtain pieces of knowledge and practical skills of the basics of Algebra, Co-ordinate and Constructive Geometry and Mathematical Analysis which can be used for solving particular tasks; moreover, the graduates obtain skills focused on the use of manuals and professional literature and they will be able to process an assigned professional topic independently. The graduates will be also familiar with the basics of pedagogical and psychological disciplines essential for teaching; with the basics of upper level of Mathematics, they will be ready for their studies of particular Master Follow Up Study Programme.

Teaching of Descriptive Geometry

Bachelor study programme Descriptive Geometry for two-discipline studies is included into study programme Mathematics. The graduates of this study branch obtain the extended imagination in space and mastering of basic kind of display methods. The graduates will be acquainted with modern software focussing on display methods and their applications.

The graduates will be familiar with display methods and their applications for solving the particular tasks including technical practical tasks. During application of display methods, they will be skilled in using CAD and they will also obtain the basics of typography and graphical editors. They will be also acquainted with the basics of graphical design and 3D modelling. The graduates will be also familiar with the basis of pedagogical and psychological disciplines essential for teaching, further with the basic of upper level of Mathematics and they will be ready for their following studies of particular Master Follow Up Study Programme.

Discrete Mathematics

The content of Bachelor Study Programme Discrete Mathematics is composed of the subjects which enable obtaining of the general basics of mathematical disciplines extended with the basics of Discrete Mathematics. Students will be skilled in using required mathematical software being applicable in wide practice.

The graduates obtain wide knowledge of fundamental mathematical disciplines (Algebra, Geometry, Mathematical Analysis); moreover, they will be familiar with special mathematical disciplines (the basis of combinatorics, graphs and networks, automatic machines, linear programming etc.) being fundamental as the theoretical base of solving tasks in Discrete Mathematics. They also obtain the ability of using mathematical software in their further studies and common practice. Graduates can benefit from developed conceptual thinking necessary for follow up master study programme, jobs in sectors which require needed knowledge of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Follow-Up Master Study Programmes

Teaching of Mathematics for Secondary Schools

Study branch of Teaching of Mathematics for Secondary Schools comes after Bachelor Study Programme of Mathematics. The aim of the follow-up study programme is to prepare students for their future professional career. Necessary information about selected particular mathematical disciplines and fields will be provided to students as well as modern findings of pedagogy, psychology and methodology of teaching of Mathematics will be contributed.

The graduates will deeply extend their previous piece of knowledge and skills of Bachelor Study Programme in Algebra, Geometry and Mathematical Analysis but also in other mathematical disciplines such as Probability and Statistics, the Theory of Sets etc. They will also control detailed extension of the most important findings of pedagogical and psychological disciplines. Graduates can find their jobs as teachers of grammar schools, vocational schools and apprentice centres but also in other professions which require mathematical education. Graduates can also continue in Doctoral Study Programme of Methodology of Teaching of Mathematics or Algebra and Geometry.

Teaching of Descriptive Geometry for Secondary Schools

The study branch of Teaching of Descriptive Geometry for Secondary Schools comes after in Bachelor Study Programme of Descriptive Geometry. It interconnects application of Descriptive Geometry to building and machinery including the use of computer graphics. Methodological problems of teaching of Descriptive Geometry are introduced to students theoretically as well as practically.

The graduates can find their jobs as teachers of grammar schools, vocational schools and apprentice centres but they are also required as the teachers of Descriptive Geometry in Technical Universities and other professions requiring knowledge of computer geometry. The graduates can also continue in Doctoral Study Programme of Methodology of Teaching of Mathematics.

Discrete Mathematics

Master Follow Up Study Programme is focussed on intensifying general mathematical knowledge and controlling deeper findings of Discrete Mathematics leading to decision making especially in discontinuous situations. The graduates will also master necessary mathematical software.

The graduates will find their jobs in fundamental research, forming and studying mathematical models in different professions, in the process of algorithmization and all the professions requiring creative mathematical thinking complemented by efficient use of computers. The graduates can also continue in Doctoral Study Programme of Algebra and Geometry.

Doctoral Study Programme

Algebra and Geometry

The programme is designed for students interested in modern algebra and/or geometry; it covers a variety of mathematical disciplines including universal algebra, lattice theory, ordered algebraic structures, mathematical logic, topology, algebraic geometry, classical differential geometry or Riemannian geometry. Doctoral students specialize either in algebra or in geometry, and after passing a doctoral examination, they focus on their own research project which is completed by a PhD defence.

Methodology of Teaching of Mathematics

The aim of study is the preparation of highly qualified experts for scientific research and work in the field of Methodology of Teaching of Mathematics. The study provides interdisciplinary mathematical, pedagogical, psychological and methodological findings of teaching of Mathematics which are the base of educational activities leading to the formation of scientific and research workers with independent and creative approach to theoretical points of mathematical education as well as with the ability of solving theoretical points and problems in teaching of Mathematics independently.
